About this workshop

We spend a lot of time managing the breath, timing and controlling it, trying to make it do something. This day moves in the opposite direction.

We begin on the ground, with somatic movement: slow, enquiring, oriented toward sensation rather than shape. Gentle movements connect us to the breathing structures and release them for a sense of freedom.

As the body settles and the nervous system finds its footing, we move into Vanda Scaravelli-inspired yoga, a practice that lets gravity and the breath lead rather than effort and instruction.

This day is about the changing of seasons, a natural moment to return to the breath. As summer draws to a close, the body is ready to shift from the openness of the warmer months towards something more inward, more refined.

Pranayama practice has long been rooted in this rhythm, and preparing the body to receive it is where we begin.

The breathwork and pranayama we practise here follow the Vanda Scaravelli approach: simplified, stripped of unnecessary complexity, and oriented toward what is actually felt rather than what is technically correct. Less technique for its own sake, more listening.

Open to students and teachers of all levels in yoga, breathwork and movement.

How to book

  • First, click the Book Now button above this text. This takes you to the Isle of Man Yoga Network booking form.
  • On that form, enter your name, email and telephone number, tick the box for Laurent Roure, Saturday 26 September, and press Submit.
  • After you submit, a page appears with the bank details for payment. Payment is made directly to the Isle of Man Yoga Network by bank transfer, using your own name as the reference. Your place is held once the payment reaches them.
  • Finally, send a short email to yogawithannie@hotmail.co.uk to confirm you have booked and to say where you are travelling from.

Please note the fee is refundable if the day is cancelled, but not if you are unable to attend.

Travel Information

How to get to the Isle of Man

Travel to the island is not included in the retreat price, giving you the freedom to book flights or ferries on your own schedule.

By air

The quickest way to reach the island is to fly into Ronaldsway Airport (IATA code: IOM) in the south. Direct flights run from a good number of UK and Irish cities, including London (Gatwick, Heathrow and City), Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin, served mainly by EasyJet, Loganair and Aer Lingus. Flight times are short, typically under an hour from most departure points.

Ronaldsway sits at the southern end of the island, so there is a further drive of roughly 45 minutes north to Ramsey. Car hire is available at the airport, and taxis and buses serve the terminal if you would rather not drive.

By sea

If you are travelling by car, or you simply prefer to arrive by sea, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company sails year-round to Douglas, the island's capital. Crossings run from Liverpool (around two hours forty-five minutes) and Heysham (around three hours forty-five minutes), with seasonal sailings from Dublin and Belfast. Vehicle spaces sell out quickly, so we recommend booking early.

Foot passengers arriving in Douglas can reach Ramsey by bus, taxi or, in the warmer months, the Manx Electric Railway, a slow and scenic ride up the east coast that is worth the time if your schedule allows.

Getting to Ramsey

Ramsey lies in the north of the island, around thirty minutes from Douglas and forty-five minutes from the airport. We can help with suggestions for transfers, car hire or public transport once your travel is booked.

Entry requirements

The Isle of Man is a self-governing Crown Dependency and part of the Common Travel Area with the UK and Ireland. UK and Irish citizens do not need a passport to travel, though airlines and ferry operators usually ask for photo identification, so we recommend bringing your passport whichever way you travel. Visitors of other nationalities should carry the same documents they would need to enter the UK.
