This class encourages you to slow down and reconnect through breath-focused slow yoga postures, restorative yoga, calming pranayama, and breathing techniques. It finishes with guided relaxation practices inspired by the yoga Nidra method. Focusing on presence and ease, each session offers space to release tension, restore balance, and nurture inner stillness. Suitable for all levels, this embodied approach encourages rest, recovery, and a grounded transition into the evening and a peaceful night’s sleep.

Workshop 1 of 3

This is the first workshop in the “The Breathing Well Series”. In this first workshop, we focus on the anatomy of breathing. Instead of trying to correct or improve the breath, we take a step back and observe how it is organised within the body. Through accessible anatomical insight and a somatic, experiential approach, participants are guided to feel breathing as a coordinated, three-dimensional movement. Participants are encouraged to notice patterns, recognise habits and rediscover where ease already exists.

Workshop 2 of 3

In the second workshop, the emphasis shifts from understanding breathing structures to preparing them to function more smoothly. Breathing relies on the mobility of the rib cage, the responsiveness of the abdominal wall and the freedom of the thoracic spine. When these areas are restricted, collapsed, or held in constant tension, the mechanics of breathing are affected, and the diaphragm cannot move efficiently. The practical work includes gentle somatic and mindful yoga techniques that promote mobility in the thoracic and upper body while supporting the abdominal cavity and accessory breathing muscles.

Workshop 3 of 3

Once the breathing structures are understood and the body has regained mobility and support, the breath can be gradually refined in a safe and steady manner. Participants are introduced to breathing practices drawn from both traditional pranayama and modern breathwork, with an emphasis on preparation and awareness rather than effort or control. These include simple exercises involving the nose, throat and abdominal area, helping participants understand how these regions contribute to breathing and overall wellbeing. The practical work includes exploring uneven rhythmic breathing, gently extending the exhalation, meditative kapalabhati and an introductory, non-dogmatic approach to Nadi Shodhana practised with structural awareness.
